Curvy Jones on: And Then I Calmed Down

First I have to give a shout out to everyone who was so supportive yesterday. I feared a lot of ‘be thankful you even HAVE a dad!’ and ‘at least your dad wants to see you’, kinds of comments, which, I suppose would be fair to leave but I still wouldn’t want to see/read/deal with them. So thanks for sensing the kind of support I needed and givin’ it to me!

Second, yesterday sucked. I got out of work early on the premise that I was going to see my dad. I went to the salon instead. Well, I tried to go to the salon. It seems like everytime I go, I get lost. I take the wrong exit every fricken time. There are 2 exits to Highway5 in Canton. I always take the first and it’s the wrong one. Or I completely drive past it and end up in freaking Chattanooga. Not really, it’s Woodstock but may as well be Tennessee!

By the time I figured out, again, that I was on the wrong end of Highway 5, it was rush hour. Grrrrrrrrrrrr. I spent about 45 minutes going from one exit to another. I get to the salon and I recognize virtually no one. I have been going to this salon for 3 years. For the first 2, there was almost no turnover. Lovely atmosphere, great stylists, and my hair loves the technique and the products that they use. Then my favorite stylist left. :( And one by one, all the people I am familiar with have left. The place is a mere shell of itself and the people that are left… let’s just say that black women don’t really trust their hair to just anyone. It’s REAL easy to screw up some hair and sorry Ms. India.Arie, I am sometimes my hair. If I look like I stuck a fork in a light socket, and then an oven, I am going to be pissed. off.  Anyway, the girl that did my hair was alright– they’re just SLOW. I only went for a shampoo, rollerset, and to have them blow out the roots so they’re straight. That should NOT take 3 hours. Holy GUH, Batman. So I said all that to say I need a new salon. I’m on the hunt for a Dominican salon on Atlanta. I’ve never been to the ones out on Buford, but I’m kind of afraid of them, to be honest. I’ve heard some stories about those shops.

And theeeeennnnn…. I have a couple of twitter apps on my blackberry. I use one to keep up with my fannish stuff, and the other to chat with my friends. There was an update available for the app I use for fannish things, so I went ahead and updated. I get to the salon, look at my phone and it has an error: Reload application 522. Oh what the hell ELSE can go wrong?!!? So my phone is dead, pretty much. Just a very pretty brick. I race out of the salon (after spending 3 hours without twitter or internet to amuse me. I played a couple of games on my iPod and read a few chapters of a book I’m reading. Thank goodness for the Kindle app!) and tried to find a TMobile store, because I had no idea where my sync cable disappeared to, to reload the software onto my phone. I needed a new cable, otherwise I was going to be minus a phone and plus a very pretty BRICK.

I don’t understand stores that sell Blackberries but don’t sell accessories. I mean, I can get a charger or a case, but try to find the most important cable and you’ll come up empty. The first Radio Shack I went to was closed. Every TMo store I passed was closed. I finally went to the mall and with minutes to spare before they closed at 9, found the TMo store there. They were OUT of the cable I need. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.  So I race up to the AT&T Store. Nope. Try Radio Shack. Nope. REALLY!?!

Dejected, I headed home. My sync cable HAD to be somewhere in the house. I was tired, cranky, HUNGRY (I seriously had a cup of coffee and a coffeecake muffin all day. Not on purpose, Murphy just had his way with my day) but I needed to find that effing cable. I turn on the lamp. Look down. See a cable on the floor.

DAMMIT. That’s the cable I’ve spent 2 hours trying to replace!  *flogs self*

So I connect the phone to the laptop, load up the software and after a few failures, at 11pm I have a working phone again. WHEW. People I cannot live without my Blackberry. My life is in that thing. Gah.

So anyway, my dad. I’m so glad I wasn’t meeting up with him last night because it would not have worked out at all. I spent all day hoping he wasn’t trying to call. I had talked to him earlier in the day. He seemed to be in good spirits. He asked if I was coming to Uncle’s party and I said of course, I would see him there. He said he wanted to make sure to spend some time with me before he left on the 10th and I said of course, sure, that’d be great.

So I’ll see him today and hopefully we can set a couple of dates, have some dinner, what have you but I can control how much my schedule gets taken over. I don’t have any intention of racing out to Decatur every single night for the next two weeks. I guess in retrospect, no one told me I had to. It’s in my nature, though to assume the worst and prepare for it. Then I am pleasantly surprised when things work out better than I had imagined they would.

Since I am still in bed and blogging, getting up would be recommended. I kind of want to go get a manicure and pedicure. It already looks beautimous outside! I hope it’s going to be warm.

I am going to see Daddy Jones, today. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Based on your tweets, I think things went well at the party, so I hope that’s the case! I have family and dad issues too, and always seem to work myself up into way too much of a tizzy and then it comes and goes and realize there was nothing to get so worked up about in the first place. Hope this is what the case is!

Yeah things seemed to go okay. A few awkward moments here and there but nothing I couldn’t handle. My dad tried to start and I just clammed up. I don’t know what they want me to say…

  2. OMG! All of that and you were still kind enough to help with my blogroll?! Awww, Curvy…thanks!

Lol, I don’t know why it does that. I can’t figure out where I edit that, but I get that about once a week from someone that just wants to send a smile.

Thank you for going the extra mile to make sure I got it! :-D
