Curvy Jones on:I wish I was a little bit taller, I wish I was a BLOGGER…

I know, blog. I know. I haven’t been here and you feel neglected. *pets* I’m here, now.

I have the hardest time feeling like I live a life that I want to blog about. But then I try to live a life I want to blog about and end up too tired to blog about it. And then I have thoughts and feelings and I can’t arrange them all in blog form, so I just don’t blog.

I will say that I’ve been surfing these here Internets and have found some wonderfully positive, self aware and perhaps even funny bloggers to link to. I’m excited to add to my blog roll! *cabbage patch*

So what’s been goin’ oooonnnn? Not much, over here. Work, work, work. I bought a new car, and now I am poor and Toyota owns my life for the next 72 months. I love my new ride though!

This is a bit of a testimony for me, actually. Long, long ago (circa 2004) I had the most horrid credit score I had ever seen. I could not have a checking account, I could not get a credit card, I had delinquency up the wazoo, my car was being repo’d and my student loan was in collections. I simply buried my head in the sand and didn’t look at it for a few years, thinking maybe it would go away. It didn’t.

A few years later, I had turned 30 and decided that, as a grownup, I needed to learn some discipline and be good with my money. These are lessons I learned at my father’s knee and never took seriously: 1) Pay yourself first (SAVE); 2) Tithe (if that’s part of your religious belief); 3) Don’t carry balances—pay them OFF monthly; 4) If you have balances, pay the HECK out of them until they’re paid off and don’t use the cards again.

I know, it sounds simple but when I had that paycheck from Kentucky Fried Chicken in my hand, it was easier to just roll on over to Kmart or Walmart or Northtown Mall and SPEND IT. So I did. For years and years, I bought things I couldn’t afford and fell into the college credit card trap.

In 2006 I found Dave Ramsey and the Total Money Makeover and started doing the Debt Snowball and started living the principles. I paid off a LOT of debt. I closed some accounts. If I HAD any credit cards, I would have stopped using them. I stopped applying for credit and started shoving money at my debt. 3 yrs later, I have two checking accounts, a cell phone account, one low limit credit card and an auto loan. In 2003… nay, 2005, I could not say this for myself. I’m definitely proud of how it’s turned around, but I still have more work to do. Must be diligent about keeping my file clean. Good behavior multiplies, builds upon itself. So, there’s that.

On the social life front, things are slowly changing. On a whim, I decided to actually leave the house, Sunday. Drove around a bit and *GASP* left Cobb County!  I never do that, yall!

I was going to see if I could hit Le Madeline for lunch, and decided to hit up a friend, all spontaneous like, and see if she wanted to do lunch. She did, so we went to TacoMac at Perimeter and ate, watched the Falcons actually win a game (WOOT) and talked. Then I got a manicure and pedicure and headed on home. It was good to be out and about and a little bit social.

This weekend, I’m thinking about going to my first Step Show. That’s right; I’ve never been to one. I went to a predominately Caucasian college  with only one black fraternity and no black sororities and few black students, so we didn’t have step shows. Two things I’ve always wanted to go to was a Step Show and the Battle of the Bands. If it doesn’t rain, I might be able to cross one of those off of the list!

Other than that, a sistah is living and breathing and doing it well here in tha A!
