like Bridget Jones, only not as well put together.

Curvy Jones on: Friday!

” ’cause it’s Friday; you ain’t got no job… and you ain’t got sh** to do.”

Yay, it’s Friday!  Friday is my favorite day of the week! Some might ask, why not Saturday?

Well, it hearkens back to my days as a wee one living in a strict household. Every day of the week, we were up at 6am for school or whatever. In the summer we had to be up and out of bed by 9 or somebody’s booty was getting  a visit from the belt. My dad did not abide laying around in bed all day long.  Once, he came home from work for lunch and it was about 11 am and I just hadn’t got up. He drove an old 74 Volkswagen bug that you could hear from a mile away. I remember laying in bed thinking I was getting away with something… and from far away I heard the sound of that Bug approaching. You never saw someone fly out of bed so fast!

On Sundays, we went to Sunday School and church. Every Sunday, so there was no sleeping in on Sunday. The only night we could stay up past bedtime was Friday night. So, Friday became my favorite day and I have always thought of Friday as an all day party. At one of my fave jobs, we had our staff meetings on Friday afternoons. We turned off the phones, gathered in the Conference room, had some snacks and some drinks (I’m a weakling,  I remember the AR manager having to make me the weakest drink, ever. HA.) and gabbed about the week. Then headed home to enjoy the evening. Good times.

At my current job it’s less of a party but still a little laid back. Chief Technology Officer brings in donut holes and we can wear jeans. Yay.  Hence, Friday is usually a good day. Friday of a payday week? WOOOOOOOOOOOO!

So, it’s Friday in the “A”, or Atlanta, or Hotlanta or… here. What’s a single girl to do with her weekend? 2.5 days laid out before her without an obligation in sight? I present to you what I call… Options.

I never used to have them, back in the small town I am from. I moved to Atlanta six years ago from Spokane, Washington, where plans on Friday night probably involve eating something, pawning something, buying a car, or going to a club. Oh, you could go to the Casino. It’s new.  Once I hit Atlanta, I was overwhelmed with possibilities! Granted, I almost never take advantage of all that this city has to offer, but one of my goals is to become (and remain) more active. So, back to my Options.

Aside from the regular decluttering from the past week, cleaning, reading and writing I usually do, I have the following items on my list:

  • Get hair done
  • Clean out my car (ugh, I can’t even tell you what a pit my car is)
  • See Julie &Julia/ The Body Exhibit at Atlantic Station

There are countless, endless, legions of options of things to do in Atlanta over the weekend! Check out @accessatlanta on twitter or at the ajc.com for ideas.  There are some good movies coming to the IMAX theater so I think I will try to have a night with some friends and do Martinis (& Diet Pepsi) & Imax.

But right now, it is past 4Pm and in true all-day-party style, my boss left at 3 and said I could leave at 4. Watch my dust!
